Wallowa
County is home to the largest wilderness area in Oregon,
Eagle Cap, and, sharing with Idaho, the deepest gorge
in the United States, Hells Canyon. It is home to the
unique Wallowa Lake, carved out by a glacier to such
perfection that it has become the landmark attraction
of an area overflowing with nature's scenic bounty.

County is home to a wealth of history the history of
the Nez Perce whose story of their eviction from this
unparalleled homeland in 1877 and fighting retreat almost
to the border of Canada continues to claim the attention
of the world.

county is also home to a wealth of art being created
by local artists, many of them attracted by three major
fine arts foundries, and which has caused Joseph to
be proclaimed one of the top 100 art towns in the United
