Wallowa County is home to the largest wilderness area in Oregon, Eagle Cap, and, sharing with Idaho, the deepest gorge in the United States, Hells Canyon. It is home to the unique Wallowa Lake, carved out by a glacier to such perfection that it has become the landmark attraction of an area overflowing with nature's scenic bounty.

Wallowa County is home to a wealth of history the history of the Nez Perce whose story of their eviction from this unparalleled homeland in 1877 and fighting retreat almost to the border of Canada continues to claim the attention of the world.
