Sweet Home, OregonSweet Home, Oregon

Welcome to Sweet Home, "Gateway to the Santiam Playground!" Nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in East Linn county, Sweet Home is home to 8,005 persons but the Sweet Home School District boasts more than 16,000 residents. Blessed with an ideal location, Sweet Home is a community with its own very distinct identity, yet it is located within a two hour's drive of the state's largest metropolitan area, the rugged and beautiful Oregon coast and the scenic high desert playground of Central Oregon.

Sweet Home is less than a hour's drive away from Oregon's state capitol, Salem, the University of Oregon in Eugene, and Oregon State University in Corvallis. Albany, the Linn county seat, is an easy 25 minute drive west of Sweet Home. All provide extensive cultural, shopping, recreational and educational opportunities.

Sweet Home is at the heart of a recreational playground. A portion of Foster reservoir is within the city limits. Green Peter reservoir is just a few miles away. The South Santiam River flows through the entire length of the town and the Calapooia River is just three miles south and runs the length of a main highway to the community. Both lakes are an angler's dream with ample numbers of trout, kokanee and bass. The lakes are also well used by both boaters and water skiers. The Santiam River is home to fighting steelhead and salmon as well. The Cascade Mountains and the Sweet Home Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest are at the east edge of the city limits. There, one can ski, hike, view wildflowers, picnic, fish, camp and much more. Hoodoo Ski area is just 45 milest east of town. Numerous private, state and federal campgrounds are located in and around the community making it a camper's paradise.

Sweet Home hosts the Oregon Jamboree. This is a three day camping and country musical festival held each August. It attracts about 15,000 persons for some of the best country music talent in the country. Past headliners have included Wynonna Judd, Reba McEntire, Brooks and Dunn, John Anderson, Faith Hill, Clint Black and many more. The community has been designated as a Tree City USA for more than a decade.
